HIFEM stands for high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology.
There are a lot of electromagnetic devices that you are already familiar with:

HIFEM produces a powerful but a harmless form of electromagnetic energy that stimulates the treatment area muscles to contract. This is done by creating electrical currents within the muscle tissue to produce muscle contractions. This is similar to the electrical activity that your body does naturally whenever you want to move any part of your body. WHAT IS SYNCHRONIZED RF?
RF stands for radio-frequency. Simultaneous with the HIFEM, the EMSCULPT NEO® device produces heating of the fat tissues underneath the skin by RF, similar to a home heating pad. However, a home heating pad produces unfocused and scattered electromagnetic energy to heat your body for comfort. Instead, the EMSCULPT NEO® RF energy is more targeted and focused to induce fat cell loss. This is done via a process called apoptosis. Over time, fat cells are permanently destroyed and removed by the body. Is EMSCULPT NEO® painful?
No, EMSCULPT NEO® treatments may feel intense but should never be painful.
What does EMSCULPT NEO® therapy feel like?
A patient can feel intense muscle contractions similar to an aggressive multi-hour gym work out. The intensity is individualized to produce a comfortable session. However, lower intensities will reduce efficacy. Additionally, the heat sensation felt in the treated area is comparable to hot stone massage.
How is EMSCULPT NEO® procedure performed?
EMSCULPT NEO® procedure is simple and easy. The device paddle(s) are placed on skin cleaned with rubbing alcohol. There has to be either no hair or minimal hair on the treatment area. For certain individuals, body hair will need to be trimmed prior to the treatment session. The only pre-procedure preparation required is being well hydrated. Other requirements include comfortable clothing that do not contain metal and no piercings in place. Please see the eligibility application for further details. You will be laying down while the applicators are applied over the treatment area for 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately, you can NOT have any electronics (cell phone, tablets, nor readers) near you during the treatment session. During the treatment you may feel intense yet tolerable heating sensation along with muscle contractions. Once the procedure is completed, there are no restrictions. You can immediately get back to your daily routine, including going back to work, school, or even shopping.
Will I lose weight with EMSCULPT NEO®?
EMSCULPT NEO® device was not studied for weight loss and is not FDA approved for weight loss. However, the therapy helps reduce your fat and build your muscles at the targeted treatment area.
It has been FDA approved to reduce your waist circumference. Both ultrasound and MRI studies showed fat loss and muscle gain.

What areas can be treated with EMSCULPT NEO®? Is each treatment area a separate expense?
Areas that can be treated include the abdomen, back of thighs, buttocks, calves, front of thighs, inner thighs, outer thighs. To equally balance the arm, the biceps and triceps are done as one muscle group. Each muscle group area would entail 4 sessions over a one month period of time. Yes, each treatment area would be a separate expense.
Can EMSCULPT NEO® be used in a patient over 35 BMI?
The device was not clinically studied in patients whose weight and height are calculated at a BMI (body mass index) of greater than 35. However, options are available; please discuss your individual situation with your provider at the consultation visit.
Are there any special supplements or diets I need to follow before or after the EMSCULPT NEO® treat
Being adequately hydrated before an EMSCULPT NEO® treatment is the only special dietary requirement before the procedure. For the abdominal procedures, we ask that you not eat 2 hours before your treatment. There are no special supplements or diets to follow during or after the treatments. A sensible, well balanced diet is always recommended. Routine exercise can be resumed the very next day. What happens to the fat that is eliminated by EMSCULPT NEO® procedure? Will the fat come back?
After the treatment, the dead fat cells are flushed out from the body through metabolic processes called apoptosis. The fat cells that are destroyed do not return. However, if you do not follow a healthy diet and exercise plan after the EMSCULPT NEO® treatments you may increase the the size of remaining fat cells in those areas and thus potentially gain weight again; this is called cellular hypertrophy.
